United Way works with other funders and non-profits to facilitate initiatives that tackle our community’s most complex issues. These initiatives range from supporting early childhood success to workforce development and building financial skills, all aimed at strengthening our community and cultivating collaborations.
The ECA was launched in 2015 after it was recommended in the 2013-2014 Onondaga Citizens League study entitled, Early Childhood and School Readiness, Creating a Community Where All Children Thrive by Five.
Raising literacy levels for all ages in Onondaga County. Solving the problem of low literacy gets at the root of educational, social and economic issues in a way that no single subject does. Through the Imagination Library program all children under the age of five can receive a free book each month.
Greater Syracuse H.O.P.E. (Healing, Opportunity, Prosperity, Empowerment) aims to bring diverse residents and stakeholders together to impact systems that create effective pathways of opportunity, resulting in a community with an inclusively promising future.
Our Gifts-In-Kind program is the community’s in-kind connection center. We help businesses find new uses for unwanted equipment and inventory, and help agencies find the items they need to do their work.
The Housing and Homeless Coalition of Central New York (HHC) serves as the community coalition to address homelessness and housing vulnerability. We are the organized body of informal networking and formal linkages between homeless services providers and other public and private human service providers.
Locating basic resources such as food, shelter, employment, or health care may mean calling dozens of phone numbers, then struggling through a maze of agencies and services to make the right connections. The 211 system helps residents find resources by dialing a simple three-digit number.
Work Train is dedicated to addressing the challenge of un-and-underemployment in Central New York by creating solutions that benefit both businesses and jobseekers alike.
CA$H (Creating Assets, Savings and Hope) Coalition of Onondaga County is a convener of organizations and businesses, including human services, education, business, financial institutions and government agencies dedicated to promoting financial stability and asset building opportunities for low- to moderate-income individuals and families in Onondaga County.
