Success By 6 is an early childhood movement led by the United Way in over 300 cities, counties, and states in America and Canada. It is a community-based, public-private partnership of individuals and organizations that share a common vision—children ready to succeed when they enter school.
Success By 6 is not a program – it is a community-wide initiative, that depends on people in our community to develop strategies based on local needs to ensure children are ready to learn when they enter school. Children learn best when they have proper health and nutrition, a safe and stable family and home life, and activities that stimulate creativity, curiosity, and all the skills they will need to succeed in school and life.
Through research and experience, Success By 6’s Policy Council guides staff in carrying out its initiatives and pinpointing priority areas in our community to focus on.
- Improve literacy rates for youth in Onondaga County.
- Improve dental health education and prevention in Onondaga County.
- Decrease rates of childhood obesity in Onondaga County.
- Increase support for Early Education initiatives in Onondaga County.
Success By 6, an initiative of United Way of Central New York, brings together leaders of business, education, government and the community to work on behalf of young children. The Success By 6 mission promotes the concept that by age 6, all children in Onondaga County will attain the necessary mental, physical, social and emotional development to successfully embrace educational and social opportunities for growth and learning.
