MLK Food & Clothing Drive

LIVE UNITED on Monday January 20th with the 14th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Food & Clothing Drive.

mlk picLive United by donating items for families who need your help. Your donations will be accepted from 8am – noon at 566 Spencer Street in Syracuse on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Non-perishable foods and new or gently used clothing will be gladly accepted with the exception of any undergarments.  In special need this year is winter clothing. Donations of baby formula, diapers, cleaning supplies, toiletries and school supplies are also welcome. Volunteers are also needed to sort, fold and deliver donated items to various non-profit agencies. This annual event is presented by the Greater Syracuse Labor Council AFL-CIO and United Way of Central New York.


Volunteer Review Panel Training Begins

VRP trainingUWCNY program proposal assessment training is now underway for community volunteers. These dedicated community members pictured below along with other volunteer panels will review local agency funding applications submitted to United Way of CNY for the 2014-17 funding period. 45 local human service agencies have submitted 120 program proposals totaling over $9.5 million in requests, which is over twice the amount that United Way of CNY currently funds.  Ten new agencies making requests this cycle include proposals from The Alzheimer’s Association and The Rescue Mission. The volunteers will review each program proposal and make recommendations for funding.
